This is just something I do every other day or so to keep myself flexible and healthy. My stretch routine consists of three stages (lower body stretch, core strengthening, and upper body stretch) that flow really nicely together. I will be breaking down how to do each move and then creating a video of the whole routine uninterrupted.
- Session One
Introduction to the personal stretch routine and breathing techniques. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rulsPYxGvA
- Session Two
The lower body stretch with an explanation of each position. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S6JADyHd1k&feature=plcp
In making this video, I decided that it would be better to record the stretches and then do the explanations as a voiceover. That way I could be clearly understood. However there are times where I'm forced to speak quickly in order to keep up with the video recording. It should still be pretty easy to follow but if you have any questions please feel free to message me or post a comment either here or on the subreddit. Thank you for your patience!
- Session Three
Core strengthening with an explanation of each exercise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUA7s2Q_o-Q
TIL that YouTube videos must be shorter than 15 minutes. Sorry if some bits are choppy, I had to do a bit of last minute editing. But I did give you a treat at the end of the video for working so hard! Again, feel free to message me or post a comment either here or on the subreddit if you have any questions.
- Session Four
The upper body stretch with an explanation of each position. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUWaKLpA7js
I recorded this video later than I normally do so the lighting is a little weird. Sorry about that!
- Session Five
The full routine, uninterrupted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiuVwkbsK3I&list=PLC894C5C5E12552D8&feature=plcp
Well I guess it's slightly interrupted because I had to upload it in three parts but they all flow smoothly together.
- Session Six
Check in after one week of testing out the routine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLQs64SYav8
Subjects include: personalizing the routine, stretching actively not passively, and utilizing the Reddit community.
I usually do this routine after a cardio exercise. I suggest walking, running, riding a bike, swimming laps, or just doing something to loosen up your muscles before starting to stretch. It's not essential that you do this but you'll get more out of the routine if you're not stiff.
Session one (Monday 8/27) - Introduction to the personal stretch routine and breathing techniques.
Session two (Tuesday 8/28) - The lower body stretch with an explanation of each position.
Session three (Wednesday 8/29) - Core strengthening with an explanation of each exercise.
Session four (Thursday 8/30) - The upper body stretch with an explanation of each position.
Session five (Friday 8/31) - The full routine, uninterrupted.
Session six (sometime around Friday 9/7) - Whole class check in, a sharing of experiences, answering of questions, and discussion of where to go from here.
Each session will come in the form of a video that I upload to YouTube. I'll post the links to the videos here and on the Reddit post.
I have been taking dance classes for 8 years, acting classes for 4 years, and occasional yoga classes when I feel like it. I also took gymnastics classes for 4 years when I was younger and some of these stretches are just the classic ones everybody learns in P.E.
I have also taught these stretches to fellow dancers and actors, most of whom were of average fitness level.
