An introduction to knitting, starting from the beginning. Learn what knitting is, how to select materials and supplies, how to knit and follow patterns, and more. Expect to spend a couple hours a week working on your projects (easily done while watching TV), and to read/watch videos to perfect your technique.

Classes will begin on Sunday, August 26th, and will last 6 to 8 weeks, depending on how things go. The first week will be strictly background reading and learning how to select supplies, and the remainder of the class will involve hands-on experience. The majority of the technique will be self taught, though one-on-one help may be arranged via video chat. Each student can expect to work on two to three projects: A scarf or dishtowel, a hat, and a test pieces to work on new techniques. Expect to spend between $5 & $20 on materials throughout the course of the class depending on material choices.

Week 2: Basic Knitting: Casting on, knit stitch Week 3: Basic Knitting: Purl stitch, garter stitch, stockinette stitch, ribbing, seed stitch Week 4: The Next Step: Increases, Decreases, Binding off Week 5: Intro to Reading Patterns: gauge, selecting a suitable yarn, abbreviations Week 6: Knitting in the Round: Casting on, following a pattern Week 7: Fixing mixtakes: Frogging, picking up dropped stitches, etc Week 8: Finishing techniques: Blocking, washing, caring for your knit items
