Are you interested in making your own high quality beer at home? Are you a already an all-grain homebrewer? This course is designed for beginning and advanced homebrewers alike.
I have been homebrewing for years and have a degree in microbiology. I am also a real-life teacher (for now, actually looking to move into the pro-brewing industry).
This class will feature homebrewing demo videos, lectures/presentations about the science of brewing, and interviews and discussion with other brewers (home and pro) about various relevant topics.
- Lesson 1: Basic Homebrewing Theory and Background
Topics For Today’s Lesson:
• How Beer is Made
• Ways to Brew
• Equipment
• The Number 1 Rule
- Lesson 2: Brewing Your First Extract Batch
Today I will walk you through the simplest of homebrews - but it is a great way to get started. I'm hoping some of your are following along and immersing yourself in this great hobby.
If you have any questions at all or comments, PLEASE do not hesitate to post a comment on the blog or message me here or on Reddit.
- Lesson 3: Malted Barley
Lecture and notes about malt, types of malt, and why it is important. During the lecture I will talk a bit about the malt aspect of recipe planning.
- Lesson 4: How to Rack/Transfer Your Beer
Just a quick update as some of you who are following along may be getting to this point soon with your first batch. I use an autosiphon and I would encourage you to use one, or, if not, to use a sanitary technique (in other words, not your mouth).
- Lesson 5: All-Grain Brewing Theory
A fairly technical write-up about the nitty-gritty of all grain. Lesson 6 is going to be a Video and Guide to your first all-grain brew day. This would be a good thing to read prior to that so you know why you're doing (or if you're not all-grain yet, why I'm doing) what.
I'd love to hear from anyone who is following along or even reading my lessons. 235 people in the class (and growing daily!! Tell you friends, tweet, share on Facebook, etc) and only a couple of comments on my posts on TheBeerPilgrim.com. It may or may not seem like it, but I put a fair amount of effort into these lessons and I'd love to hear your feedback (maybe I'm wrong about something I've said?) or questions - just post a comment on the blog...
- Lesson 6: All-Grain Brewing How-To
Last time we went into the theory of all-grain brewing, this time it is all about practice. I feel it can be overwhelming to try to learn about the "how" and the "why" all at once, so last time was the "why" and this is the "how". There is a (fairly lengthy) video showing how I make all-grain batches, as well as a more concise guide in text format.
As usual, please post questions, comments, suggestions, topic requests to the blog :-)
